The 2012 IGNITE! Directing Mentorship allows young aspiring directors the opportunity to work with a world-class mentor to bring a fully realized theatrical production to the stage. The 2012 Directing Mentors are: Stephen Drover, Adrienne Wong, and Kendra Fanconi.
Three participants will be selected by jury and will work directly with their mentor who will help them through the process of casting, rehearsing, and preparing their show for the stage.
Along the way the participants will meet with some of the city’s top arts administrators and industry professionals for skill building workshops in areas such as media relations, grant writing, and professional theatre standards. These workshops are specifically designed to assist young artists who want to pursue a career in the arts.
The scripts that the directors will be working with are the winning submissions from the 2010 Young Playwrights Competition, an annual event held as part of the IGNITE! Youth Week Festival. The scripts are currently being edited and redrafted as part of the IGNITE! Play Writing Mentorship.
The plays that the participants produce will be premiered as part of the 2011 IGNITE! Festival and will run from Monday May 14th to Saturday May 19th, 2012 in The VanCity Culture Lab at The Cultch, one of the country’s premiere performing arts festival.
The application deadline is Monday, February 15th, 2012. It is free to apply. Participants are chosen by a jury made up of the mentors, The Cultch’s Youth Program Manager, and members of the IGNITE! Youth Panel. For Full application details, please click here.
